June 22 | 2022 Knox Bike Racing Wednesday MTB Series

Haw Ridge Park, Oak Ridge, TN 37830

The series runs through August and consists of races using multiple trail systems in the Knoxville, TN area. These are cross country mountain bike races and categories are spaced with 1 minute between the next. Classes for all levels of riders from beginners to experts. This is NOT a USAC sanctioned series, so licenses are not required. The Junior classes will start at 5:15pm. The Beginner, Sport, Clydesdale, Open Women, E-Bike and Expert classes will start at 6:30pm.

This event will take place on June 25th from 4 to 6PM at 195 Tobby Hollow Ln. Knoxville, TN. The event will feature six artists and include literary readings, comedy, and music. Carpooling to the event is greatly encouraged, as there will be very limited space for parking.

Featuring: JoAnna Brooker, Krista Cox, Savannah Jane, Karla Brundage, Ryan Dunaway, & Elisha Mykelti.

BrickYard Bar and Grill and Black Hearts Productions is proud to honor our friend brother in punk, Aaron Chambers, with a all day punk event dedicated to one of best people we know. The first half of the day will feature accoustic punk acts played on the patio as we serve a special punk rock and brass monkey brunch (one of Aaron’s Ideas), and then in the evening we will go electric and alternate punk acts between the indoor and outdoor stage. After the touring bands are paid all other profits go to East TN Harm Reduction, All Ages till 9pm, 18+ after 9pm. $15 Donation Encouraged

July 4th | Fourth of July on Mabry’s Hill

Enjoy great views, good food and beer, live music, fun games, great company and tours of the 1858 house. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and spread out on our 7 acres of greenspace near downtown and right off I-40. Our event recalls the spirit of 19th century Independence Day celebrations when communities gathered for patriotic revelry and enjoyment. Overlooking downtown Knoxville to the west and the Great Smoky Mountains to south, historic Mabry’s Hill enjoys a spectacular view of the fireworks presented by the City of Knoxville and revelers around the city and county. Savor food from Dia De Foods and other food trucks. Quench your thirst with beverages from Xul Beer Co. and other local breweries. We’ll also have several activities for kids and the young at heart including sack races, watermelon seed spitting contests, three-legged races, bocce, croquet, corn hole, and much more. Tinca Tinca will bring their retro-futuristic indie-rock and electronic sound for attendees to groove and enjoy. We’ll have a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Purchase tickets to join in a cake walk and possibly take home a delicious cake from a local bakery! Trotta Montgomery Realty Company will be back with Biscuit the pony! All proceeds benefit our educational and preservation missions! Event will occur rain or shine.


July 4th | Farragut Freedom Run

Please join us in our annual July 4th 1 & 2 Mile race brought to you by Fleet Feet Knoxville. Participants will race just ahead of the Town of Farragut’s annual Independence Day Parade. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to enjoy a relatively flat/fast 1 and 2 mile course. Both courses are USATF* certified


July 4th | Independence Day Anvil Shoot Celebration

While most Americans celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, the Museum of Appalachia marks the occasion with an old- fashioned “anvil shoot”. Every 4th of July, the Museum uses gunpowder to launch a 200-pound anvil hundreds of feet into the air!


Anvil shoots were once a common way for pioneers to commemorate holidays, elections, and other special occasions.


The anvil shoot is the centerpiece of an all-day celebration that includes a national bell-ringing ceremony, flag procession, live music, southern food, demonstrations from blacksmiths, beekeepers, dulcimer makers, spinners, weavers, rail splitters, and more.

Fireworks , The 4th , Food and Fun! You are invited to spend July 4th with us at our iconic Sunsphere . Enjoy the many Independence Day festivities on the World’s Fair Park grounds during the day and then head on up to the 6th or 8th floor of Knoxville’s gold disco ball in the sky to take in the city’s fireworks show. Our top floor ( 8th) will have Rosa’s Catering providing drinks, appetizers with an ice cream bar and dj stylings from Kimzee Entertainment.

Our VIP floor ( 6th ) will host the AMAZING singing talent of Knoxville’s very own, Lauren Arp, refreshing drinks, a slider and hot dog bar with summer sides and an ice cream bar, provided by Rosa’s Catering. You pick the floor, and we will provide the food , fun and fireworks so close you can almost touch them ....all away from the crowd in a nicely air conditioned space with a view like none other!

July 23rd | Hello, Dolly!

Brown Bag 2022 Lecture Series with William Isom II

William Isom II will discuss the history of our own version of Juneteenth, the spread of the 8th of August across the South and today’s recognition of National Emancipation.


About the Speaker

William Isom II is a 6th generation East Tennessean and Director of Black in Appalachia: Research, Education & Support. There he coordinates the project’s research, community database development, documentary film and photography production, oral history collection and educational events in conjunction with local residents. He is also the proud father of two boys, Devin and Isa.
